Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc and ch1), dc in next dc, ch 1, dc in next dc,* sk 2 dc, 5 dc in center dc of shell, sk 2 dc, dc in next dc, ch 1, dc in next dc, ch 1, dc in next dc, repeat from * to end, turn.
Repeat row 31 more times.

This diagram shows how the four panels should be assembled. Two colors will touch at each seam, so I used one of the two yarns to whip stitch the panels together. Since the poncho is symmetrical, you can wear it with any color to the front to match your outfit or your mood!
To make this poncho for a child: Measure the child’s head, then add 4” to that measurement. Divide it by 4, then round up to the nearest inch. So, if the child’s head measures 18” around, adding 4” makes it 22”. Divide by 4 and you get 5.5”, so round it up to the nearest inch and you have 6” as your magic number. For each panel, start with a chain of 46 and do one less pattern repeat across. Follow the pattern as above until the panel is longer than it is wide, then stop to measure. The difference between the length of the panel and the width should be equal to the magic number you calculated above.
